Abstract

Keyword: The effectiveness, CIRC (Cooperative Reading and Composition) technique, Reading Comprehension. In general, the goal of learning a foreign language is that the students are expected to be able to master the four language skill, such as listening, writing, speaking and reading. Reading is one of the language skills that play an important role in foreign language acquisition. So, in reading the learner must read carefully and give appreciation about what they read, because the learner have the purpose in this process to get meaning and information from the reading task. In fact it is not easy for the students to get their comprehension, so he or she need appropriate strategy to help them in reading comprehension. The problems of the study are: (1) how is the students’ achievement in reading comprehension before using CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) technique? (2) How is the students’ achievement in reading comprehension after using CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) technique? (3) Is/ are there any different significant effect before and after using CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) technique in teaching reading comprehension. The purposes of the study are: (1) to know the students’ achievement in reading comprehension before using CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) technique. (2) To know the students’ achievement in reading comprehension after using CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) technique (3) To know whether the use of CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) technique gives significant effect toward the students’ achievement in reading comprehension or not. This research is experimental design, and it is intended to know the effectiveness of using CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) technique in teaching reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of MTsN Tunggangri, Tulungagung. The method of collecting data is administering test. The analysis technique of analysis data used t-test statistical analysis for CIRC technique in teaching reading comprehension. Research findings: From the count of score pretest the researcher found that the students achievement was quite poor, it was showed by the total of score 3197. It was the basic competence of the students before they got the treatment. Then, the researcher count the score of posttest and the result showed that the total of score 3290. From the count of score of pretest and posttest it was clear that the total score of posttest was higher than pretest. The analysis would be more valid and reliable after the researcher analyzed by using t-test formula. Data analysis above shows that t > t (2.282 > 2.021), so Ho is rejected or Ha is accepted. The result of the t-test was 2,282. The researcher consulted the critical value on the t-table using the 5 %( 0.05) alpha level of significance and the 43 degree of freedom which was 2.021 .since the obtained t-value was higher than the critical value on the table (2.282 > 2.021),the difference was statistically significant.
