Abstract

Key words : Problems in English Teaching Learning Background : Elementary school places English as one of required program that develops students’ basic skills. Teaching at Elementary school needs a long time to acquire it perfectly, moreover, there are four integrated skill such as listening and speaking, reading and writing that must be mastered well. Teaching English is different with teaching another lesson. English language is something difficult for students as beginner learners. There are some factors that influence their English learning. The writer wants to know problems faced by the teacher and the students of SDN 2 Karangrejo in English subject. Formulation of research problems are : 1. What are the teacher’s problems in English teaching and learning at SDN 2 Karangrejo ?; 2.What are the students’ problems in English teaching and learning of SDN 2 Karangrejo ?; 3.What are the solutions for the problems ? Significance of research : 1. For English teacher : to increase better techniques in English teaching process and he will get input how to overcome students’ problems well, 2. For students’; to inform the students in their problems in learning English and the better way in English learning process, 3. For Headmaster; to give suggestion and motivation to the teacher and students in English teaching learning well, 4. For the writer ; to knows the problems in English teaching and learning faced by elementary students and to add knowledge and information. Methodology : 1. Method of research; Descriptive research with qualitative approaches, 2. Subject; all of the students and one English teacher of SDN 2 Karangrejo Kampak Trenggalek, 3. variable of the research; problems of English teaching learning, 4. Techniques of data collection; questionnaire, interview, observation and documentation method. Result of research : 1. The design of English teaching learning to the students of SDN 2 Karangrejo Kampak is less interest, 2. There are some problems in English teaching faced by the teacher, they are teacher don’t make a lesson plan, there is no complete media and does not use specific methods, only repetition and imitation. There are some problems in English teaching faced by the students; they get difficulty writing English words and distinguish of one each other pronunciation but they have good interest in English. Solution from the problems : 1. For the teacher : he should use the media it can be fact, puppets, which taken from self collection to support in teaching learning activity, and to make the students do not confuse. The teacher before should explain the method which used, as like listen and repeat, question and answer, substitution, etc. 2. For the students : to avoid feel be borried, the student given the variation methods by the teacher and should always given exercise to improve their vocabulary and pronunciation in learning English.
