Abstract

Key words: Students’ problem in learning English Vocabulary Vocabulary is the one of component in learning English. Vocabulary is word know, learner, used. It means that vocabulary is important to know, learn and use. Without having a good vocabulary, they cannot make meaningful sentences in communication. The formulation of the research problems were:1)What are students’ problems in learning English vocabulary? 2) How are the teachers’ strategies to overcome students in learning vocabulary? Research method: 1) Research design used was descriptive qualitative because the writer want to describe the current phenomena about the students’ problems in learning English vocabulary. 2) The subject of the study was students and teacher of English lesson. 3) data collecting method and instrument: a) observation method with passive participant observation, b) interview method with one in one interview guide, c) documentation.4) the data analysis was using inductive method. The result show that students had many problem in learning English in the fifth year students class, particularly term in inhabitation, students can’t pronounce correctly caused by mother tongue, confuse to differ 2 words with similar spelling, confuse to pronounce letter “S” and “Z” and difficult to pronounce when class of word changing.problem in pronunciations, spelling and meaning. The researcher knows that every student has different problems about that but, there are some students has same problem. For example, about the pronunciation the researcher found that almost students’ problems are about habitual language is not habit to use in the daily activity and very difference pronounce with Javanese language. They also confuse when they found new words near the same with other words.The second problem are about spelling, near the same with pronunciations students’ always confuse when the teacher ask to write down the word without open the dictionary. English alphabetic are very different with Indonesians alphabetic. Furthermore, students are confused to use it.The last problems are about problem in meaning. They are still open dictionary when the teachers ask the students to doing some works in spite of the case their teacher forbid to open dictionary. Almost students do not know what the point of the words and they often misunderstanding about last lesson.
