Abstract
Students need to be active, to find, and to express their ideas and opinions, and to find an answer toward their questions and anxiety as well. Therefore, teachers need to plan a learning process that enables to fulfill those students’ needs. One of the learning, students are trained to find and comprehend difficult concepts by discussions among their peers. Cooperative learning give an opportunity for students to question each other in the effort of improving their comprehension. One of the most versatile forms of cooperative learning is jigsaw Technique. In the Jigsaw model of cooperative Learning, students in heterogeneous teams help each other by using a variety of cooperative study methods and quizzing procedures students within a given class are divided into five, six or seven members learning teams, with representatives of gender, various racial or ethnic groups, and intelligence This method was selected because it was believed to able to stimulate the students to be more involved in reading skills in the process of teaching learning English. Thus this study was directed to solve practical problems in the process of the teaching and learning English. The research problem was formulated as follows : “How can Jigsaw Technique improve the students reading skill at the eight grade at MTs Al Muslihuun Tlogo?” This study is designed to improved students technique the objective of the study was to find out how the jigsaw technique can improve students’ reading skill. This study is classroom action research: it is adapted Kemmis and inc Targgarts’. This study consisted of two cycles, each of cycles consisted of four stages, namely: Planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The subject or this study are the eight grade students of MTs Almuslihuun Tlogo. During the research, the researcher acted as the teacher, while the English teacher became the collaborator and acted as an observer. The instruments used to collect data are students questionnaire, observation sheets, field notes, interview and test. The data from the students questionnaire, observation sheet and test are presented in the from of table, while data from interview and field note are analyzed and reported descriptively. This study was carried out from may 1st to may 26th 2009 benefits and the improvement can showed based the result of the students’ questionnaire, observation sheets, interview, and the result of test. Based on the result of data collection, it is concluded that the jigsaw technique can improve the reading skill. The data of the students participation in cycle II showed that there 4 students get excellent mark, 13 student get the good mark, 7 students get the mark, 1 students get poor mark. This result showed the students’ participation passed criteria of success. Based on this result, the researcher concludes that students participation passed the criteria of success mean while, based the result of individual test in cycle II showed that 24(96%) of students passed KKM(Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum). Based on the result of students’ questionnaire and interview with the teacher in cycle II, the researcher can be identified that there were minor problems faced by students and the teacher in the class, it means that the implementing of jigsaw technique was successfully.
