Abstract

ABSTRACT Prayekti, Yuni (17203163063). Correlation Between Frequency Of Watching English Movies And Translation Skill Of English Department At Iain Tulungagung In Academic Year 2016/2017. Thesis. English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic (IAIN) of Tulungagung 2020. Advisor : Dr. Nurul Chojimah, M.Pd. Keywords: Correlation Study, Frequency of Watching English Movie, Translation skill. Translation is one of important English language skills to connect with other people especially for different country. It is very useful to tranfering idea of a language to another language. There are any ways to improve translation skill. For example by watching English movie. There are many dialogue of a movie. It is very useful to enrich of vocabulary that is important particular of translate. So, based on this, the researcher wanted to investigate the correlation between wathing English movie and translation skill. The purpose of this research was to know whether there is any significant correlation between frequency of watching English moures and translation skill of English department at IAIN Tulungagung in academic year 2016/2017. This research used correlational research design with quantitative approach. The population was all of all English Department students of IAIN Tulungagung on the 4th semester in the academic year of 2016/2017. There were five classes that consist of 200 students. The sample of this research was class D that consist of 41 students by using convenience sampling technique. The data got from questionnaire and score from traslation lecturer. The researcher used Spearman Correlation Coefficient using SPSS 16.0 program to analyze the data. The result of this research showed coefficient correlation is 0,168. It indicates if the correlation is positive and very low. However, to measure the strength of correlation, p-value is compared with level of significance. p-value (0,293) is bigger than the level of significant (0.05). It means that the null hypothesis (Ho) is not rejected. Therefore, there is no significant correlation between students’ frequency on watching English movie and their translation skill English department at IAIN Tulungagung in academic year 2016/2017
