Keywords: long complex text, subtitling strategies, Zootopia movie The film industry not only produces movies with good quality, but also faces problems in getting across the stories in different languages to audience. The problem takes place since only a small percentage of the world’s population understands English as the original language spoken in most movies made by Hollywood which are difficult to understand by the people, this condition can be a problem. Movie subtitle and dubbing that made by translator appear as a helping. There are some rules that limit the subtitle to be simple, easy to read and not too long so that the audience can still enjoy the movie and also catch the message. The strategy of long complex text seems to be the solution to achieve it all. In this study, the strategy of long complex text in Zootopia movie is analyzed by using translation strategies proposed by Gotlieb. The research question in this study is: 1) How are the long complex text in the Zootopia movie subtitled into Indonesian? Hence, from the research question, the researcher formulates the objective of the study are to investigate: 1) How the long complex text in the Zootopia movie subtitled into Indonesian. The design of this study is descriptive study with qualitative approach since it focuses on understanding language phenomena from the perspective of the human participants in natural settings. The data of this research are the long complex text in Zootopia movie. The source of data is script by Jared Bush and Phil Johnston. Data analysis reveals some findings covering the formulated research questions. Throughout the movie, the researcher finds 52 long complex texts. The data are divided into ten categories based on the ten translation strategies by Gotlieb namely transfer, expansion, paraphrase, condensation, decimation, imitation, transcription, dislocation, deletion, and resignation. However, we found only 4 strategies used in subtitling of long complex text in the film, they are transfer, condensation, paraphrase and deletion. A movie translator should accurately choose the best strategy in translating the long complex text need a deeper explanation in order to copes the gaps between SL and TL understanding. Thus, choosing strategies appropriately may help the long message of the movie can be received well by the viewers.
