English Education Program. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Nanik Sri Rahayu, M.Pd Keywords: Prezi, ICT, Writing, Descriptive Text. Being a skillful writer is not easy. It needs many other skills to be mastered first in order to be the skillful writer i.e. skill in content, form, grammar, and style. The use of technology especially ICT helps those dealing with English teaching and learning process especially teaching writing. The traditional teaching media, method, strategy are also no longer effective to shape and improve students writing. This study examines the use of Prezi as an interactive and visual pleasing tool that uses zooming and spatial relationships to present information in improving the first year students’ skill in writing descriptive text at MAN Rejotangan. The formulation of research problems were (1) How is the implementation of teaching writing descriptive text using prezi sofware to the first year student in MAN REJOTANGAN 2014/2015 academic year? and (2) How does prezi software improve writing descriptive text ability to the first year student in MAN REJOTANGAN in 2014/2015 academic year? Based on the formulation of research problem, this study is aimed to know how the implementation of teaching writing using prezi software, and to know whether teaching using prezi software can improve the students skill on writing descriptive text This study used classroom action research design. The subject of the study comprised 27 students from X IPA 3 at MAN Rejotangan. They were assigned as the subject of the study since based on the preliminary test and information from the teacher, the majority of the students still had the low ability in writing descriptive text. This study was conducted in two cycles comprising three meetings in each cycle, and carried out in four steps namely; planning the action, implementation/action, observation and reflection. At the end of each cycle, evaluation test was conducted to know the improvement of students’ ability in writing descriptive text. The data of the research were collected by using some techniques. They were qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques. Observation was the technique for getting qualitative data. It was in the form of observation sheet and photographs. The quantitative data included the written tests taken before and after the cycles were implemented, and the result of questionnaire. Then the writer compared the mean scores of each cycle from cycle 1 and cycle 2. The result of the research shows that Prezi can improve the students’ ability in writing descriptive text. There was an improvement on the mean score of the test. In the first cycle it was 67.22 and improved to 84.25 in the second cycle. This media could make the students pay attention to the lesson properly. It also improved students’ ability in writing descriptive text. They were highly motivated to write after being taught by using Prezi. The English teachers who want to apply Prezi in English teaching should make sure that the tool such as laptop and LCD projector are provided in order to make the process runs well.
