Keywords: Effectiveness, Memrise Application, Vocabulary Mastery, Pandemic Covid-19. Vocabulary becomes a core component of English language success because vocabulary is used as a basis for a student whether can or not they speak, listen, read, and write English. The students can learn about vocabulary in the pandemic covid-19 with uses a smartphone. Now, technology very helpful for the students when they are learning vocabulary using the Memrise application. Memrise application can make the students enjoy when they learning vocabulary because of many features in Memrise application. The formulation of the research problem: is there any significant difference between students’ vocabulary mastery before and after being taught by using Memrise application of the first grade at SMPN 9 Mesuji Raya in the pandemic covid-19? The objective of the research is to investigate of the effectiveness of using the Memrise application toward students’ vocabulary of the first grade at SMPN 9 Mesuji Raya in the pandemic covid-19?. The purpose of this research is to know the significant difference between students’ vocabulary mastery before and after being taught by using the Memrise application of the first grade at SMPN 9 Mesuji Raya in the pandemic. Research method: 1) research design of this study was Pre-experimental one group to pre-test and post-test with the quantitative approach. 2) the population of this research is class VII at SMPN 9 Mesuji Raya Palembang. 3) the sample of this research is VII 1 SMPN 9 Mesuji Raya Palembang. 4) the variable of the research there are two independent and dependent, the independent variable of the research is using the Memrise application and the dependent variable of the research is the students’ vocabulary mastery. 5) the instruments of this research with the test, namely pre test, and post-test. 6) the data analysis was using SPSS 16 version to T-test. The finding showed that Memrise Application was effective toward vocabulary mastery of the first grade at SMPN 9 Mesuji Raya Palembang in pandemic covid-19. The effectiveness of the Memrise application can be shown from different scores before and after being taught using Memrise application in the following descriptios: 1) The mean score pre-test and post-test, the mean pre-test was 58.06 and the mean of post-test was 75.32. 2) The Sum of the result for the pre-test was 1800 and the post-test was 2335. The sum of the post-test scores were higher than the sum of the pre-test. 3) The significance of testing normality is the significance score of pre-test was sig = 0.97 and the significance score of post-test was sig=0.188. The sig/p value on pre-test is sig = 0.097 greater than sig = 0.05 (sig = 0.97 > sig = 0.50). And, for the post-test score value sig/p is sig = 0.188 greater than sig = 0.05 (sig = 0.188 > sig = 0.05). So, its mean data distribution was normality distributed. 4) The significance of homogeneity test was sig = 0.258, it’s higher than sig = 0.05 (sig = 0.258 > sig = 0.05). So, it can be concluded that the variance of the pre-test and post-test data was homogeneity. 5)The T-test was -7.102 with the df =30 and the p-value (two-tailed) was 0.000. given that the present was a one-tailed test. So, the p-value (sig = 0.000) was divided into : 0.000/2 = 0.000. The sig 0.000 is smaller than the significance 0.05. So, the null hypothesis was rejected. The alternative hypothesis (Ha) of post-test was higher than of a pre-test. From the result, it’s mean the Memrise application is effective Memrise toward students vocabulary mastery of the first grade at SMPN 9 Mesuji Raya Palembang in the pandemic section
