Abstract
The advancement of technology affects all aspects of life, including communication. The massive use of the Internet in general and social media in particular is one of the characteristics of communication at present. This drastic change linguistically affects styles of communication. Simplification of linguistic expressions, semantic changes, and the common use of sarcasm are just three cases in point. The use of abbreviations and emoticons is the simplification of linguistic expressions commonly found in digital communication. Meaning invention is the other characteristic of digital communication. Sarcasm or sarcastic expressions is another communication style commonly performed by language users in the Internet.
