Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effect of client centered counseling on self-efficacy of 8th grade students at SMPN 1 Ngantru, Tulungagung. The design used at study is quasi-non-experimental design equivalent control group design with pretest and posttest. Participants in This study consisted of 10 students with low level of self-efficacy. 5 students as the experimental group and 5 students as the control group. The data in this study were analyzed using gain score analysis. The results of the analysis show the mean gain score of the experimental group was 25.60, while in the control group the mean gain score is 5.80, which indicates that the increase in the experimental group's self-efficacy score was higher than the control group. Then the hypothesis testing was using independent sample T-test To compare the gain scores of two groups, it was found that there was a significant difference between the gain score of the experimental group (M=25.6, SD=3.209) and the gain score of the control group score [M=5.8, SD=1.789; t(8)=12.05, p=0.000]. The result shows that client centered counseling has a significant effect to the increasing of student self-efficacy.
