Abstract

ABSTRACT Instagram is one of the means of communication to improve one's personal image in the public sphere. Among them is the image of women who want to show the feminine side as well as masculine through cultural symbols. The results of this study are expected to be used as an additional reference source in further research on how the role of celebrities in influencing the self - image of teenagers today . Selebgaram @eri.carl is one of the influencers among teenagers. The study explains how the formation of the image of women built by Erica Carlina through the Instagram account @eri.carl. So, this study will use a semiotic analysis of @eri.carl's Instagram posts. The method used is interpretive to explain the meanings of symbols in pictures. As a result, Erica Carlina builds an image through poses, self- expression, captions, and attributes that appear in the image. The captions and photos depict Erica's personality using the symbol of coffee as a form of intelligence, moge as a masculine form, and kebaya as a feminine form. The phenomenon of the celebrity lifestyle of Erica Carlina is also negative by teenagers who imitate their lifestyle that exceeds normal limits, such as smoking, wearing tattoos, wearing clothes that seem very revealing. Thus, Erica Carlina has a positive image of herself as a beautiful and successful woman through hard work, without leaving her feminine side. Keywords: Instagram, Self Image, and Semiotics Analysis
