Abstract

The Effectiveness of Using Dictogloss Method toward the Students’ Speaking Ability at The 8th of MTs PSM Tanen Rejotangan Tulungagung.Thesis. English Education Departement. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Hj. Nanik Sri Rahayu, M.Pd. Keywords: Teaching speaking, Dictogloss method, Speaking ability. As one of the language skill, speaking is very important skill need to be mastered by the students. However, mastering speaking sometimes is is difficult to the students. Here the teacher should use appropiate strategy to teach speaking. Dictoglos is new way in dictation. Dictogloss is classroom dictation activity were students listen, write down the keyword and reconstructed the text in group. In this study the researcher used dictogloss method was effective or not to students in teaching speaking. The formulation of the research question in this study is “Is there any significance different on students’ speaking ability before and after being taught using Dictogloss method at the 8th grade of MTs PSM Tanen Rejotangan Tulungagung". This research was conducted using a pre-experimental research design using one group of pre-test and post-test. The populations in this study were all 8th grade students at MTs PSM Tanen. The sample used in this study was class VIII C consisting of 23 students using purposive sampling. The isntrument used is a test The test includes pre-test and post-test. In analyzing the data, the researcher Ttest paired sample test in SPSS software.. Based on the results of the analysis, the results of the study showed that there is a significant difference in the score of students' speaking ability before and after learning process used dictogloss method. The mean score before being taught by using dicogloss method was 40.03. Meanwhile, the average score after being taught using the dictogloss method was 63.26. Thus, it can be clearly stated that the mean score of post-test is higher than the mean score of pre-test. After being analyzed using paired sample t-test, the results presented that the number of significant values is 0.00 and less than 0.05. (0.000 < 0.05) So, the null hypothesis of this study was rejected. In this study it can be said that the Dictogloss Method can be strategies to teaching speaking students in Junior High School. Then, the Dictogloss method is effective towards students' speaking ability at MTs PSM Tanen Rejotangan Tulungagung.
