Keywords : Correlation, Homograph, Translation. English is a language that is used as a global language therefore English is a mandatory language to learn. In learning a language, knowing the meaning of the language is very important so that we are able to translate it appropriately. Mastering vocabulary is one of the most basic components in translation. However, many English vocabularies are in the form of homographs or words that own the same spelling but have more than one meaning. One of the main causes of major errors in translation activities is the choice of word meaning. Errors can occur if the translator is only fixated on the gist meaning or the general or dominant meaning and translates it without considering the context which may require a less general meaning. Therefore, researcher is interested in conducting research related to "The Correlation between Homograph Mastery and Students' translation Ability". The research’s purpose is to find out if there is a relationship between students' homograph mastery and their translation ability. The design of this research is correlational study and the approach is quanttitative. The variables that the researcher uses in this study are Students’ Homograph Mastery (X) and Students’ Translation Ability (Y). Researcher uses two types of tests to collect data, namely homograph and translation tests. The population of this study are all third year students, specifically sixth semester students of the English Education Department at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung which consists of 159 students. Researcher takes 50 samples from the population using random sampling technique. The result of the study indicates that the correlation score is 0,600 and P-value is 0,000 which means that there is a correlation between homograph mastery and translation ability of the third year students of English Education Department at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. It indicates that the change in the mastery of homograph will be followed by the change the ability of translation. The better the students' knowledge of homographs, the better their translation capability. Therefore, homographs is necessary to be mastered and taught so that the translation results are precise and accurate.
