Abstract

This research was conducted in response to the government's policy to tackle the spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia by carrying out teaching and learning activities from home and face-to-face learning during the pandemic for schools in the green zone based on the terms and conditions from the government. Teaching and learning activities consists of three stages include the planning stage, implementation stage, and evaluation stage. Blended learning is a method that can be applied by schools that are already to carried out face-to-face activities during the pandemic. SDN Bogempinggir Sidoarjo is one of the schools that implemented this method for the first time. This research aims to find and describe the problems faced by teachers in planning stage, implementation stage, and evaluation stage of teaching English for young learners using blended learning during the Covid-19 pandemic at SDN Bogempinggir Sidoarjo. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive research design. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. In this study, researchers reveal the problems experienced by teachers in teaching English to young students using the blended learning method. First, the problem faced by the teacher in the planning stage of learning English is that the teacher has difficulty in making the English Lesson Plan (RPP). Second, the problems faced by teachers in the implementation stage of learning are as follows; 1) Limited time for face-to-face learning, 2) Problems with internet access, 3) Lack of student motivation in learning English, 4) Lack of interaction between teachers and students, and 5) Limited use of learning media in online learning. Finally, there are difficulties in the learning evaluation stage, namely problems in evaluating students in the form of student inactivity in sending assignments or daily tests given by the teacher, attitude assessments that cannot be assessed consistently, and authenticity of students in doing assignments or daily tests.
