Abstract

Abstract Thengul dance is cultural preservation of the motion of the Thengul wayang play, which is staged in the form of a dance. Thengul dance has become synonymous with Bojonegoro regency, and it is well known both locally and nationally. In this case, the Thengul dance created conventionally by combining the artist’s experience, resulting in a dance expression with symbols and meanings derived from the dance. This dance movement from the Thengul shadow puppet show is expressed in this way. This study was created to provide answer to yhe formulation of the problem regarding the representation of the spirituality value of the Thengul dance, that is how is the transformation of the thengul puppet play which is created in the form of a dance? Why is the Thengul dance able to represent the spirituality value of the Bojonegoro community? This study’s data was gathered using a qualitative method based on an etnochoreology approach. The goal of this reseach is to use an etnochoreology approach to broaden the understanding an representation of spirituality value of the Bojonegoro to community in Thengul dance, including the form of history, presentation, movement/accompaniment, and make-up/custume in the Thengul. Research findings in the form of, the existence of the Bojonegoro community can represent the spirituality value of the Bojonegoro community. “Thengul Jejer dance movement/march means that life must be harmonius, modest, or simple with other humans regardless of caste”.
