Language is an important tool in communicating in the sense of conveying ideas, thoughts or feelings, so language allows people to interact with each other. People use utterances in their daily communication. The uterances shown by the action are called the speech acts. There are 5 types of speech act, one of them is expressive act. It is a speech act that expresses the speaker’s feelings. This study aims to find expressive acts in the Luca movie script. The focus of the study are: 1) What types of expressive act utterances are found in “Luca” movie?. 2) What are the patterns of expressive acts utterances found in “Luca” movie?. In this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative analysis method. This research includes content analysis, because the method used is a documentation method. To collect the data, the researcher watched a movie, read a transcript of the dialogue, sellect the type of expressive act, and analyzed the data. The researcher used theory from Searle to classify the expressive acts that were found by researcher. From analyzed the Luca movie script, the researcher found the types of expressive acts and the pattern of expressive acts. The result in this research, there are six types of expressive acts, such as thanking, congrulating, apologizing, greeting, complementing, and wishing. The expressive act of thanking found fourteen data, expressive of congrulation found one data, expression of apologize found fifteen data, expression of greeting found thirteen data, expression of complementing found twenty nine data, and expression of wishing found nineteen data. From the five types of expressive act, the expression that often appears is the complementation of expressive act. Based on the result of the study, the researcher wants to give suggestion for students, teachers, and future researchers. The students can improve their vocabulary and they can know how to express their feelings towards other people. The teacher can enrich knowledge about English, especially in terms of expressive act and in teaching and learning activities, teachers can choose movie as one of the choices of learning media. The researcher, they can take information from this research to get better results.
