Abstract

ABSTRACT AMIRUL AZIZ, 2022. A Study on Figurative Language Used in Scorpion Song Lyrics. Thesis, English Education Departement, Tarbiyah, Islamic State University of Sayid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung, Dr.Hj.Nanik Sri Rahayu, M,Pd Keywords : Figurative Language, Scorpions, Song Lyric, Value. Song is a short piece of music, usually contain a message to listeners. In song writing the creator of song use lot of figurative words to beautify, more meaningful and also to present difficult word while write down in lyrics song the song. The researcher was interested in analyzing the figurative language used in Scorpions in album “Blackout”. In each scorpion songs tells of love, broken heart ,and human being. The purpose of this study is to determine : 1. The types of figurative language used in Scorpions song lyrics “Blackout” album , 2. The most dominant of figurative language language used in Scorpions song lyrics “Blackout” album, 3. The contextual meaning found in language in Scorpions song lyrics “Blackout” album. This research used was library research. Data collection techniques by searching from field “song lyrics” on the internet. Transcription of 5 from 9 songs lyrics in the album “Blackout” observing and calculate of all figurative language types and found in the lyrics, describing and explaining the figurative language types found in the lyrics, validate the analysis and presenting the results of the data analysis. The result of this study ten types of figurative language found and used in Scorpions “Blackout” album song lyrics. They are hyperbole, irony, metaphor, metonomy, personification, simile, synecdoche, alliteration, litotes and oxymoron. As a result Hyperbole, irony, and simile is being the most used figurative language in Scorpions “Blackout”.
