The Effectiveness of Pictionary Game from Gartic.io on Students’ Vocabulary Mastery of the 7th Grade Students at MTs Sunan Kalijogo Kalidawir. Thesis. English Education Department. Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah State Islamic University. Advisor: Dr. Ida Isnawati, M.Pd. Keyword: Effectiveness, Vocabulary Mastery, Pictionary Game. Vocabulary is one of crucial aspects of language which brings influence to four English skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing). The lack of vocabulary mastery will make students difficult to communicate in English. In addition, the process of delivering thoughts and ideas will be difficult and even to master those four skills will be obstructed. However, the problem is that students feel bored with monotonous learning in teaching vocabulary. Considering the importance of vocabulary in language acquisition, vocabulary teaching and learning process is needed to be more fun and interesting to stimulate students in vocabulary learning. Pleasant atmosphere is very required by providing a media Pictionary game from gartic.io in vocabulary learning process. This research was conducted to verify whether Pictionary game from gartic.io was effectively used in teaching vocabulary. This research was concerned on the implementation of Pictionary game from gartic.io in improving students’ vocabulary mastery. Pictionary game from gartic.io was a game in which the players guess a certain word based on the category and draw a certain word in turns. The formulation of the research problem was “Is there any significant difference score in vocabulary of the students who are taught by using Pictionary game from gartic.io and those who are taught by using conventional method?” This research used Quasi-Experimental research design with pre-test and post-test as the instruments in form of multiple choice consisted of 40 items. The research population was all of the 7th grade students of MTs Sunan Kalijogo Kalidawir. The samples of the research were two homogeneous class, they are 7B which consisted of 23 students as experimental group and 7C which consisted of 23 students as control group. The significant difference score showed that students who were taught by using Pictionary game from gartic.io gained higher score than those who were taught by using conventional method. The mean score of experimental group was 90,00 and the mean score of control group was 84,8913. The result of t-test at significant value (sig. 2-tailed) was 0,041 which it was smaller than 0,05. It could be concluded that Pictionary game from gartic.io is effectively used to improve students’ vocabulary mastery.
