In spite of the fact that tech-assisted readability measurement is growing in many parts of the world, this field is still understudied in Indonesia. It has been recognized that the teachers can better match texts to students’ reading levels by anticipating their readability levels. It is expected that the appropriate reading text will facilitate students’ comprehension of the materials. This research aims to measure the readability texts in English official school textbook entitled UKBM English Lesson for Fourth Semester MTsN 2 Probolinggo. This research attempted to find out whether the reading texts are appropriate or not in terms of readability level for the target students and build the dialogue between the results of readability measured by Flesch Kincaid Calculator and the students’ perception of text readability. This research used qualitative method, specifically content analysis while the data sources are English official school textbook entitled UKBM English Lesson for fourth semester of MTsN 2 Probolinggo which published by a private publisher and students’ perceived of text readability. Additionally, Flesch Kincaid Calculator and questionnaire are utilized for data collection. Flesch Kincaid Calculator is a website which is used to determine the reading level of each text in textbook calculated automatically. The questionnaire, on the other hand, is used to find out how the students feel about the difficulty of reading texts using Google Form. The findings show that there are 4 categories of reading texts in the textbook, they were found that 1 text was at ‘standard’ level and appropriate for 8th grade students, 2 texts were at ‘fairly easy’ level and appropriate for 7th grade students, and 1 text was at ‘very easy’ level and appropriate for 5th grade students by the result of Flesch Kincaid Calculator. Similiarly, most of the students also said that the reading texts were mostly at ‘easy’ level. In conclusion, according to Flesch Kincaid Calculator’s findings indicate that the textbook’s reading texts are at ‘fairly easy’ level and appropriate for 7th grade students, those results are from the mean of Flesch Reading Ease score, and the questionnaire’s findings indicate that textbook’s reading texts are easy. This analysis is great assistance to the teachers in choosing the appropriate reading materials for their students, and the researcher suggests that the reading texts in this textbook be revised.
