Abstract

Aulia, Novita. Student ID Number. 12203183107. 2022. An Analysis of Figurative Language in Adele’s Song Liric. English Departmen. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. Islamic State Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Supervisor: Moh. Basuni, M.Pd. Keyword: Figurative language, song, lyrics, Adele In this research, the researcher focuses on the type of figurative language and the message contained in Adele's song lyrics. The formulation of research problem in this research are: 1) What are the types of figurative language found in Adele's songs? 2) How is the message contained in each figure language contained in the lyrics of Adele's songs? The purpose of this research is to:1) To know the types figurative language in the related song, and 2) To find out the content of the message contained in the figurative language in the related song. The the research method in this research is descriptive qualitative design with a stylistic approach. This approach focuses on the language and style of the language in it. The data sources in this study were song lyrics from: 1) When We Are Young, 2) Love in The Dark, 3) Make You Feel My Love, and 4) Set Fire to The Rain. In this study, each song lyric from the four songs was analyzed for the type and message of the figure of speech contained in it using the grand theory of Keraf (2009), Reaske (1996), and McAthur (1996). The results of this study indicate that the types of figurative language contained in Adele's songs are simile, personification, hyperbole, and metaphor. While the results of the messages conveyed by these figures of speech are the use of figures of speech intended to emphasize the meaning or message the author wants to convey, namely, emphasizing feelings of hatred using hyperbole, and emphasizing deep love by using similes
