Abstract

Higher order thingking Skills (HOTS) is thinking skills that involve critical and creative thinking skills. Critical thinking skills is a process of intellectual activity and conceptual skills, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of information collected or generated from observation, reflection, and reasoning. Creative thinking skills with regard to the ability to solve problems or pose problem fluency, flexible, and original. Think critically and creatively allows students studying the problem in a systematic way, brings a lot of challenges in an organized manner, formulate questions and designing innovative original settlement. Critical thinking skills refer to convergent thinking skills to think creatively while referring to divergent thinking. With this balance students can achieve high performance. So HOTS in mathematics learning need to be given and strengthened. HOTS in mathematics can be started training since elementary school, because HOTS trained from the beginning will lead students to achieve optimal performance.
