Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Nanik Sri Rahayu, M.Pd. Keywords: Effectiveness, Schema Activation Strategy, Reading Comprehension. Reading is one of the skill which important in language learning. Reading is information-processing, transforming print to speech, or print to meaning. Anyone who wants to succeed in reading a particular text, he/she should be able to catch the meaning conveyed through a bundle of words in the text. The use of Schema Activation Strategy is expected have a positive effect in increasing students’ learning interest that affects their learning outcomes. In this Strategy, students use Schema Activation Strategy to achieve reading comprehension. The formulation of the research problem was: Is there any significant different score on students’ reading comprehension between the 8th grader students who are taught by using Schema Activation Strategy and those who are not taught by using Schema Activation Strategy. The objective of this research was to know whether or not there is any significant different score on students’ reading comprehension between the 8th grader students who are taught by using Schema Activation Strategy and those who are not. The research design of this study was quasi experimental design with quantitative approach. The population of this research was the second grader students of MTs Darul Falah Bendiljati Kulon. The samples of this research were VIII A class as experimental group consisted of 34 students and VIII C class as control group consisted of 28 students. The research instrument was in the form of reading comprehension test. The data analysis was using Independent Sample t-test by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) 16.00. The result showed that the students’ mean score in experimental group before being taught using by Schema Activation Strategy was 53.7879 and the students’ mean score after being taught using by Schema Activation Strategy was 83.1818. In the control group also there is improvement mean score from 52.9333 became 71.4333. However, the improvement in experimental group was higher than control group. In addition, the result of the statistical computation used Independent Sample t-test with SPSS 16.00, showed that the significance value is 0.00. It means that the significance value is smaller than the significance level (0.00 < 0.05). The result of significance value indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means there was a significant effect of using schema activation strategy on students’ achievement in reading comprehension at MTs Darul Falah Bendiljati Kulon. In the other words, schema activation strategy was recommended for the teacher to teach reading comprehension.
