English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and teaching Training. State Islamic University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Nurul Chojimah, M.Pd. Keywords: perception, English education students, code-mixing, English teaching and learning process. Code-mixing is the mixing of one language with another language in the same utterance for communication purposes. This research discuss code-mixing between two languages, English and Indonesian. Students' perception regarding the use of code-mixing need to be discussed, because in fact there are still many English education students who are expected to be fluent in English use code-mixing between English and Indonesian during the English teaching and learning process in lectures. The purpose of this research was to find out the students’ perceptions toward the use of fun and lively learning English in the teaching and learning process, the effects of using code-mixing in English teaching and learning process felt by students at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulugagung, and to find out the students’ understanding during English teaching and learning process when the interactions uses code-mixing. The research design of this research was descriptive quantitative approach with a survey design. The population in this study were students majoring in English education in the sixth semester at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung with total 195 students. While the sample taken for this research was 26 students. Data collection for this research was carried out using an electronic questionnaire (Google Form), and then the data were analyzed using SPSS 16 application. The result of this research shows that 77% of students have a positive perception, they also agreed that the use of code-mixing has a positive impact on them, it can be used as a way to make fun and lively learning in the classroom and easy to understand the lesson. 19% of students have a neutral perception of the impact of using code-mixing. Then, 4% of students who have a negative perception think that code-mixing does not have a positive impact on them and they feel uncomfortable when using code-mixing in the English teaching and learning process.
