Keyword: Vocabulary, Learning Strategy, Semantic Mapping In English lessons, one of the problems experienced by students is the weakness in mastering English vocabulary. This is because most students are not accustomed to speaking English. When they have difficulty in understanding English vocabulary, they can also have difficulty in achieving the objectives of the English learning. A learning strategy such as Semantic Mapping can help students to increase their mastery of English vocabulary. Because in the use of semantic mapping, students are required to look for new vocabulary words that are interrelated. The purpose of this study was to find out the effectiveness of using semantic mapping on the seventh grade students' mastery of English vocabulary at MTsN 2 Kota Blitar. Researcher formulate the formulation of the problem as follows: “Is the use of semantic mapping effective on the seventh grade students' English vocabulary mastery at MTsN 2 Kota Blitar?” In this study, researcher used a quantitative approach with a preexperimental design. The population in this study were seventh grade students of MTsN 2 Kota Blitar and the sample was 33 students of class VII F who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was a vocabulary test which contained 20 multiple choice questions given during the pre-test and post-test. Then the researcher analyzed the result of the study using the Dependent T-test formula in SPSS 25 to find out the difference in the average pre-test and post-test scores. The result of this study show that the use of semantic mapping is effective in students' mastery of English vocabulary. The result can be seen in the result of data analysis at the following points: 1) the average pre-test score of students is 67.58. 2) the average post-test score is 85.45. 3) the result of the hypothesis test using the Dependent T-test, namely p. value (sig. 2 tailed) is lower than the level of significance (0.000 <0.005), so there is a significant difference in scores on students' English mastery before and after being taught using semantic mapping.
