Pd Keywords: writing, recount text, photograph sequence This research was conducted to implement the photographs sequence strategy to solve the students’ problems in writing recount text. This research was intended to improve students’ skill in writing recount text at second grade of SMPN 1 Ngunut, Tulungagung in the academic year 2015/2016. Photographs sequence strategy is the strategy used some photos which are arranged sequently by using movie maker. Its function is to tell story or a sequence of events. The focus problem to be solved is the students’ difficulties in writing recount text and the score of the students’ writing was low. Those problems were found in the preliminary study. The formulation of research problem was: How can Photographs Sequence improve students’ skill in writing recount text at second grade students at SMPN 1 Ngunut? Whereas the purpose of this study was to investigate how photographs sequence can improve students’ skill in writing recount text at eighth grade students at SMPN 1 Ngunut. Research Method: 1) the research design in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR) using Arikuntos’ model which consists of; planning, implementing, observing and refelecting, 2) the subjects of this study were all students of second grade (VIII-H) in academic year 2015/2016 at SMPN 1 Ngunut consisting of 40 students (25 females and 15 males), 3) the research instruments used in this study were; questionnaire, field note and test, 4) the data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The result of this study indicates the use of photographs sequence strategy can improve the students’skill in writing recount text. The improvement was indicated by the achievement of the students’ writing scores. Then, in preliminary test, most of the students or 55% in VIII H got scored < 75. So, it can be concluded that the test result does not reach the Minimum Mastery Criterion/KKM. While in the first cycle, there were 28 students or 70% passed the test and the 12 students or 30% failed. It means that the criteria of success had not been achieved yet, becuase the criteria of success that had been determined were 75%. In the second cycle, most of the students got improvement in their writing obtained 32 students or 80 % passed the test, from the increasing number of score which fullfilled the Minimum Mastery Criterion/KKM. In addition, the result observation by using fieldnote showed that the students enjoyed the strategy and become more active. As a result, the students were not making a lot of noise anymore and the students’ sore was increased. In conclusion, photographs sequence as a strategy in teaching writing is effective to improve students’skill in writing recount text.
