Keywords: effectiveness, discovery leaning, speaking ability There are many students struggle in learning languages, especially foreign languages. One of the problems that arises in this instance is students ‘unwillingness to learn to speak, despite the fact that speaking is one of the four important parts of learning in English. Various factors are the reasons students, one of them is students afraid to speak English in teaching and learning activities. In the other side discovery learning is a series of learning activities that maximally involve all students' abilities to search and investigate systematically, critically and logically, so that they can discover their own knowledge, attitudes and skills as a form of behavior change. The present study is conducted to prove if discovery learning was effective for teaching speaking The focuses on in this research problem formulation: Is the use of discovery learning model effective on the speaking ability of the tenth-grade MA Al Hikmahh Langkapan Maron Srengat Blitar students? The purpose of this study was to measure the effectiveness of discovery learning model and sets clear expectations for the speaking abilities of the tenth grade MA Al Hikmah Langkapan Maron Srengat Blitar students. The design of this research is an experimental design with a quantitative approach. The population of this research is the tenth grade students of MA Al Hikmah Langkapan Maron Srengat Blitar. The sample is class X A which consists of 25 students. The tool used by the researcher is an oral assessment. Pretest and posttest are the tests used in this research. The data analysis of this research used the independent sample t-test with helped by SPSS program version 25.0. Based on the research findings and explanation, this research was found out that using discovery learning model was effective to teaching students speaking ability in tenth grade of MA Langkapan Maron Srengat Blitar. It proved after had been analyzed, the result of analyzed sample t-test and shown that the Sig (2 tailed) was 0.000, which mean is lower than Sig value 0.05, so it could take the result that there was significant different score on students’ speaking ability before and after being taught using discover learning model, because the null hypothesis (Ho) that said there is no difference score before and after students’ being taught using discovery leaning was rejected, and alternative hypothesis (Ha) that said there is significance difference students speaking ability score before and after being taught using discovery learning model. So it can be conclude that using discovery learning model was effective to teaching students for improve their ability in speaking especially for students at the tenth grade of MA al Hikmahh Langkapan Maron Srengat Blitar.
