Abstract

Speaking as a productive activity is one of the skills that students must master because speaking is an interactive process in constructing meaning involving the production, reception and processing of information. Speaking ability is influenced by many factors, one of which is affective factors, which has a part, namely personality. Students at Sidney Modern English Club Tulungagung have personalities that are quiet (introvert), balanced (ambivert) and cheerful/active (extrovert). And from each type of personality produces different speaking performance skills. Students who are active (extrovert) will tend to have good speaking performance. While quiet students (introverts) have low speaking performance. The formulation of this research problem is, "Is there a correlation between students' personality extraversion and their speaking performance in Sidney Modern English Club Tulungagung?" Based on the research problem, this research aimed to find out whether any correlation between students' personality extraversion and their speaking performance in Sidney Modern English Club Tulungagung? This research used quantitative approach with correlation design. The population is taken from tenth grade vocational students of Sidney Modern English Club Tulungagung and the sample was 30 students from group A. The instrument used was extraversion personality questionnaire. The instruments used were extraversion personality questionnaire and speaking performance test. Pearson Product Moment was used to analyze the data after the data were collected. Based on the research analysis, there is a correlation between extraversion personality and speaking performance. The researcher found the sig is 0.000 <0.05. So, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. The conclusion is that there is a correlation between extraversion personality and speaking performance of group A students in Sidney Modern English Club Tulungagung. The results of the Pearson Product Moment calculation above obtained a correlation coefficient value of 0.862. According to Jonathan Sarwono's theory, the correlation value is at a very strong level, which is between 0.75 - 0.99. In conclusion, there is a very strong relationship between extraversion personality and speaking performance of group A students in Sidney Modern English Club Tulungagung.
