Abstract

Rhetoric discusses the structure of language and the rules for its preparation, both orally and in writing. Language is an important element that underlies the development of culture and is a benchmark for cultural existence. Rhetoric in its implementation also has a role that influences other aspects of culture, in this case as a form of effort to improve the spirituality of the community. Based on this, the researcher intends to find out the role of rhetoric in da'wah activities. In further discussion, the researcher also wants to study the characteristics of Emha Ainun Nadjib's da'wah rhetoric pattern, as well as the opinion of the Mojokerto community about the message of da'wah and the figure of Cak Nun. Researchers used a qualitative approach to answer the questions above. This research uses a variety of instruments, including documentation studies, observation studies and interviews. The primary data of this research comes from journals, books and other media that discuss the rhetoric and da'wah activities of Emha Ainun Nadjib. While the secondary data studied came from the results of interviews with the Mojokerto community, both those who were members of the Maiyyah congregation and the general public. Cak Nun as a da'wah activist has a background as a writer and likes to gather with the community. This experience made Cak Nun able to easily position himself as a Maiyyah congregation. Jamaah Maiyyah is built on spiritual and intellectual awareness with the aspiration to build a society that not only pays attention to the value of monotheism or Islamic faith, but also cares about sharia law or matters relating to humans and other creatures of Allah.
