Husna, Nisaul. Student Registered Number. 12203173136. 2022. The Flirting Motivation Found in Expressive Acts in “365 Days” Movie Script. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Erna Iftanti, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: Flirting Motivation, Expressive Acts, 365 Days Movie Language becomes the most important tool in communication. However, there are much cases of misunderstanding of finding the real message of the speaker especially about flirting. Flirting is one of avoiding topic to talk. There are a lot of people could not get flirting signal. In fact, flirting has good impact for mental health. In this study, the researcher focuses on flirting motivation in expressive act in the movie “365 Days”. The formulation of the problem in this research are : 1) What are the expressive acts found in “365 Days” movie script? 2) What kinds of flirting motivation found expressive act in “365 Days” movie script? 3) What messages can be found from knowing the types of flirting motivation in “365 Days” movie script?. The researcher uses qualitative research with descriptive analysis. The researcher used content analysis to analyze this research. The sources of the data in this study is taken from the movie and the script of “365 Days”. The data obtained are categorized based on the theory from Henningsen (2014) regarding six main motivations for flirting, namely relational development motivation, sex motivation, fun motivation, explorational motivation, self esteem motivation and instrumental motivation. The results of this research indicate that there are 53 utterances of expressive acts. They are 1 thanking, 5 apologizing, 2 congratulating, 7 greeting, 13 wishing, and 25 opining. The next results indicates that there are 5 from 6 flirting motivations based on Henningsen’s classification used by Massimo and Laura as the main characters in the 365 Days movie script. As Henningsen said that many flirting interactions involve more than one motives. The researcher found 20 flirting motivations from 12 utterances. The details: 6 relational motivations, 4 sex motivations, 5 fun motivations, 3 explorational motivations, and 2 instrumental motivations. The next result is the messages found by knowing the types of flirting motivation. There are 5 messages from 13 messages found. The utterances and the acts of the protagonists help the researcher identify the stock character. The stock character creates the genre of the movie and the genre creates the messages of the movie.
