Keywords: Students’ Problems, Students’ Solution, Test of English Proficiency (TOEP). The Test of English Proficiency (TOEP) is a test used to measure the test taker's English proficiency without being tied to any curriculum. At Islamic State University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung TOEP (Test of English Proficiency) is used to measure students' ability in English. TOEP is organized by the Language Development Center (P2B) which has the main task of developing and exploring the English language skills of all UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung students. The TOEP exam is held for students in semester 5 and above S1 as a graduation requirement. Even though the TOEP is held every semester for students in semester 5 and above, there will always be problems faced by English students when answering the TOEP. From linguistic problems or not, and from existing problems how do they find solutions. The formulation of the research problems are: 1) What is problems do students majoring in English face when taking the TOEP at Islamic State University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung? 2) How do the students’ solutions to the problem of students majoring in English in taking the TOEP? This research is qualitative research. Data collection was carried out using interview method. Data analysis in this research is managing data, condensing data, displaying data, drawing data, and verifying conclusions. In this study, there were several student problems in answering TOEP questions, such as learning problems, study anxiety, test anxiety, being unable to manage time, and lack of motivation. And from these problems, there will also be solutions to overcome the problems experienced by students. This study aims to find out the problems experienced by English students during the TOEP and the solutions to these problems from them. The research subjects were six fifth-semester students majoring in English, two students with high scores (above 400), two students with medium scores (between 361 – 399), and two students with low scores (360 and below) as a comparison. The results of this study can be concluded that there are several factors of learning problems experienced by students, such as laziness, feeling slow in understanding the material, teaching techniques that are not appropriate, and factors from the students themselves who experience difficulties in English. Most students consider studying for the TOEP to be important. Student anxiety is divided into two parts, namely learning anxiety and exam anxiety. Of the six students, only one student experienced learning anxiety while taking the TOEP. Meanwhile, exam anxiety can occur due to negative thoughts, fear of not getting a score above 400, and self-doubt. Time management problems can occur because students do not plan their time from the start of the exam. As a result, students unknowingly procrastinate for a long time during exams and when time is running out, many students have not answered all the questions. Reading comprehension and Listening were each chosen by three students out of six students, this shows that each part of the TOEP has its own difficulties. And lastly, lack of motivation, students lack motivation because they don't know what the purpose of TOEP is. They consider TOEP not important and only focus on getting a certificate as a graduation requirement later. Inappropriate classroom learning techniques greatly affect students' answering the TOEP. Anxiety is also the reason why students lack motivation in the middle of an exam. There are also students who lack motivation because they feel ready. The TOEP learning method follows the same method, namely finding and learning through TOEFL practice questions that have been provided on various free websites and can also be studied on Youtube. So that it can help students to make strategies for answering TOEP questions. The solution to overcoming learning anxiety is to divert the mind first, try to calm down, look for the root of the problem, and then look for solutions to get out of this anxiety. The solution to anxiety during exams can be reduced by praying before the exam, preparing well, calming down before the exam, being confident, and continuing to think positively. The solution to be able to time management properly is create a strategy for dividing time, not repeat reading or listening to questions too often, not beat around the bush, and prioritizes easy questions. The solution to be motivated during TOEP is by participating in useful events, and thinking positively to increase motivation and a sense of pride.
