Advisor: Dr. Ida Isnawati, M.Pd Keywords: Effectiveness, English podcast, speaking skill Speaking is one of the most challenging language skills for English students in the classroom because some of them are not confident when speaking English. This is one of the reasons why teachers must take action to find solutions to problems that occur in the classroom. In addition, the factor of problems in the classroom is not only from the students but also from the teacher whether it is in terms of media used by teachers. One of the media that can be used by teacher is English podcast because it is useful and suitable for students of today’s era who are relatively more adaptive using with technology. The research question in this study is “Is there any significant difference score in students’ speaking skills between before and after being taught by using podcasts?” Therefore, the aim of this study is to find out the significant different in score on students’ speaking skills before and after being taught by using podcasts at MTs Al Ma’arif Tulungagung. To achieve this goal, the researcher conducted an experimental research with pre experimental research design. The population of this study was the students of VIII MTs Al Ma’arif Tulungagung, and the students in VIII-C MTs Al Ma’arif Tulungagung as samples which totaled 22 students. To collect data, the researcher used pre-test and post-test as an instruments, and the data analysis the researcher used the Wilcoxon test formula because the data in this study was not normally distributed. The data analysis showed that the mean of pre-test score was 57.16 and the mean of post-test score was 75.28. It showed that there were different students’ score before and after being taught by using English podcast. Then, the result of the Wilcoxon test showed a significant (sig. 2- tailed) of 0.000. From these results, the significant value (sig, 2-tailed) was less than the level of significance (p-value) of 0.05. So it can be said that the alternative hypothesis was accepted and the null hypothesis was rejected. It meant that the English podcast had an effect on the students’ speaking skill in this learning. As a result, this study was effective on eighth grade students’ speaking skill at MTs Al Ma’arif Tulungagung.
