The data collection method were observation and interview. The data verification technique was triangulation methodology. The researcher used several techniques of data analysis, they were data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of this study revealed that the researcher found various expressions that fell into the category of translanguaging. There were three types of translanguaging that appeared, namely Intra-sentential Translanguaging, Congruent Lexicalization Translanguaging, and Tag Translanguaging. The six functions of translanguaging found were to support students as they engage with and comprehend complex content and texts, to provide opportunities for students to develop linguistic practices for academic contexts, to make space for students' ways of knowing, to support students' socioemotional development and multilingual identities, as class management and control, and translanguaging functions to check the extent of student understanding. Then the main reasons of the use of translanguaging in English language learning classes at MTs Sunan Kalijogo Kalidawir Tulungagung were three, namely (1) Translanguaging aimed to make students better understand what the teacher was saying, (2) The purpose of translanguaging was to foster the habit and motivation of speaking English to students, and (3) Improve a stagnant situation during the English language teaching and learning process to prevent gap between the teacher and students.
