Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic University (UIN) Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Nurul Chojimah, M.Pd. Key words: Analysis, Difficulties, Reading Comprehension. Reading comprehension is important in learning English, with proper reading comprehension, students will easily understand and master the material quickly. But of course in learning English students experience many difficulties in reading comprehension which can make students unable to understand the material properly. From this phenomena, the objectives of this study are 1) To know the student’s difficulties in reading comprehension. 2) To know the factor occur of the difficulties in reading comprehension for student. This research uses a qualitative approach with the researcher as the human instrument. The design of research used is descriptive. The data collection techniques used in this research are observations made during the learning and teaching process, interviews conducted with the subject, namely the English teacher, and 6 students from class VIII-E SMPN 1 NGUNUT, documentation of the results of observation activities and interviews. The result of this study is the existence of reading comprehension difficulties faced by students, namely, difficulties in determining the main idea, understanding vocabulary, making conclusions, detailed information, and also lack of student concentration. Furthermore, the factors of reading comprehension difficulties in students are inadequate instruction presented by the teacher, lack of pupil interest, home environment, and the last is the school environment. These reading comprehension difficulties can make students not understand the material they have read. From the conclusion of this study, it can be seen that the research findings can answer the research questions that have been made, namely about students' difficulties in reading comprehension and the factors that cause reading comprehension difficulties in students. From the results of this study the researcher provides suggestions that are expected to provide benefits for English teachers, students, and further researchers. With the results of this study teachers can find ways to overcome students' difficulties in reading comprehension, for students can increase their interest in English, and for further researchers it is hoped that this research can provide appropriate information.
