Abstract
In the course of communication, listening is the capacity to accurately receive and interpret messages. Listening is one of the most difficult abilities in English, student who have low ability will have difficulty in understanding English. Student need alternative method to motivate learn English, which is through game. Karuta game is one of method can be alternative to help student learn listening. The problem formulation in this study is “do islamic junior high school students who taught using karuta game achieve better listening skill than those without using karuta game?. Based on the formulation of the research problem, the objective of this study is “To find out islamic junior high school students who taught using karuta game achieve better listening skill than those without using karuta game”. The design of this research use a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The population of this study is the seventh-grade students of MTsN 7 Tulungagung. The sample were 68 student taken from VII-G (Experimental) and VII-H (Control). The instrument used in this research is a written test, which is divided into pre-test and post-test. The data analysis of this study used a independent sample t-test using SPSS version 25.0 The results of this study is based on the independent sample t-test output data, the sig. value (2-tailed) shows the number 0.000. This means that the value is smaller than alpha or 0.000 < α (0.05) in other words H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. As a result, there is a significant difference in listening skills between students who get treatment using the karuta game and students without treatment. Additional evidence is provided by the data that the treatment class's average score is higher (80.15) than the control class's (69.85). So, it can be concluded that there is an influence of the karuta game on students' listening comprehension at MTsN 7 Tulungagung.
