Abstract

Carrying out dual roles ideally is not an easy situation for many people to live with. Regardless of playing multiple roles in the family context or in the world of education. Uniquely, students at the Madrasah Aliyah level at Darul Huda Islamic Boarding School Ponorogo have high motivation in organizing amidst the complex activities and limitations that exist in Islamic boarding schools. This research aims to explore the experiences of santri in carrying out their role, which not only requires studying and reciting the Koran, but also being an organizational administrator who leads other santri in an Islamic boarding school. This research is qualitative research that uses a phenomenological approach, especially phenomenology with psychological nuances with interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) techniques. As a data collection method, this research applies semi-structured interviews and purposive sampling techniques in determining interview informants. Interviews in this research were conducted several times with three main informants who met the criteria. As a result, there are students who are more focused on school and have less potential in organizations, students who prioritize organizations over school, and students who feel they have failed in carrying out all their roles. This can occur due to the influence of personal characteristics, then the point of view held, adaptation in Islamic boarding schools, and motivation in organizing. This research finds differences with the experience of dual roles in the context of students in general, where social support is less influential than in the family. Meanwhile, in this research, social support still has an influence because the research subjects are in Islamic boarding schools, which makes other students not only friends, but also family who are always together every day.
