Abstract
Reading is a process that readers engage in to acquire the message that the author intends to convey through the use of written language or words. Reading comprehension is the skill of being able to grasp, analyze, and criticize written works in a way that makes sense. Translation means putting the meaning of a text into another language in the way that the author meant it. Reading and translation are related to one another. Despite this, students studying translation must be able to scan or skim content. Since they are now reading just for the sake of translation, they also need to read for a deeper understanding. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational research design. This study aimed to determine whether there is significant correlation between students’ reading comprehension and translation ability. The population of this study was 129 students of class XI of SMK Islam 2 Durenan. The researcher used random sampling technique, and obtained a sample of 35 students consisting of 1 class. The instruments of this research were reading comprehension and translation ability test. The data collected were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation in SPSS 27.0. The analysis showed that the correlation coefficient (r) was 0.937 with a significance value of <0.001, this indicates that the null hypothesis (H₀) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. These result show a very strong positive correlation between students’ reading comprehension and their translation ability. The meaning of the strong positive correlation is shown by the improvement of the average scores for the reading comprehension and the translation ability.
