Keywords: The effectiveness, Anagram word games, Vocabulary Vocabulary is one of the basic elements that students should master when learning English. A broad vocabulary mastery can help students to speak, listen, write and read fluently. However, passive learning strategies and a lack of student engagement with learning materials and classroom activities cause students to struggle to master vocabulary. This kind of problem also happened in SMAN 1 Karangrejo. Applying games can add variety to learning and encourage students to be actively involved in the classroom. In this study, the researcher applied anagram word games in vocabulary teaching at the tenth grade at SMAN 1 Karangrejo. The research design employed in this study was a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design, involving a one-group pre-test and post-test. The population of this research was 407 students at SMAN 1 Karangrejo. The sample for this research was 36 students of X-A at SMAN 1 Karangrejo, consisting of 13 male students and 23 female students. The data results were analyzed using parametric tests with the Paired sample T-test because the data were normally distributed. The result of data analysis showed that the average score of students in the pre-test was 69.33, meanwhile the average score of students in the post-test was 84.67. This shows a significant difference in students' vocabulary mastery before and after being taught using the Anagram word game. The Paired sample T-test yields a significance value (sig. 2-tailed) of the Independent Sample Test is <0.001. The significance value (sig. 2-tailed) was less than the level of significance 0.05 (<0.001<0.05), which indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Thus, it can be stated that the anagram word game is effective towards vocabulary mastery of the tenth grade at SMAN 1 Karangrejo
