M.A. Keywords: character education, English textbook, Pancasila Student Profile, elementary school The background of this research stems from the growing emphasis on character education as a fundamental goal of national education in Indonesia, particularly in alignment with the Pancasila Student Profile introduced in the Merdeka Curriculum. Textbooks play a crucial role in shaping students’ values, especially in primary education where students are in the early stages of moral and character development. English textbooks, as part of this process, should not only teach language skills but also integrate values that foster students’ character. This research investigates the character education values found in the English textbook entitled “English Enrichment Book for 5th Grade SD/MI” and quality of the textbook evaluated from various educational aspects. The study aims to identify (1) What are character education values presented in the textbook entitled “English Enrichment Book for 5th Grade SD/MI” and (2) How is the quality of the English textbook “English Enrichment Book for 5th Grade SD/MI” evaluated from various educational aspects? This study employs a qualitative method using content analysis approach. The object of the study is an English textbook entitled “English Enrichment Book For 5th Grade SD/MI”. Data were collected from reading and conversation text in the textbook and then highlighting relevant text to answer research question. The findings reveal that the textbook incorporates a variety of character values aligned with the six dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile. These include values such as faith in God Almighty, noble character, global diversity, cooperation, independence, and critical thinking. These values are integrated through narrative texts, dialogues, and structured learning activities intended to promote moral awareness and social responsibility. However, the creativity dimension appears to be less emphasized throughout the material. In addition, the book presents limitations in terms of grammatical accuracy, lack of creativity focused content, outdated visual design, and minimal use of updated sources. While character values are present, their integration is mostly implicit and requires teacher support to be fully effective in classroom implementation. It can be concluded that the English Enrichment Book for 5th Grade SD/MI contains relevant content and integrates several character values that align with the Merdeka Curriculum, particularly those related to responsibility, discipline, and cooperation. However, the textbook still requires significant improvement in several areas, including grammatical accuracy, clarity of learning objectives, creative content, and up-to-date visual presentation. Strengthening these aspects would enhance the textbook’s effectiveness not only as a language learning tool but also as a medium for promoting character education more explicitly and meaningfully.
