Abstract

Lilyani Cahyaningrum. 12203183037. “Improving Students’ English Language Through Interactive Games At UPT SDN Slemanan 02”. Thesis. English Education Program. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic University Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah of Tulungagung. Advisor Dr. H. Nursamsu, S.Pd. I, M.Pd Keywords: Interactive Games, Elementary School, Improving Language Skills. This research is motivated by the low English language skills of students at UPT SDN Slemanan 02, especially in terms of speaking skills and vocabulary. Many students feel less confident and get bored quickly when learning takes place conventionally. Therefore, a more enjoyable and interactive learning approach is needed so that students are more motivated and active in the learning process, one of which is through interactive games. The purpose of this study was to determine how the use of interactive games can improve students English language skills, as well as to identify students responses to the application of this method. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The subjects of the study were students in grades one to six consisting of 74 students, but only 12 students were selected as informants to be interviewed in depth. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study showed that the use of interactive games such as “Word Puzzle”, “Guessing Game”, and “Role Play” were able to increase students' interest and participation in learning English. Students became more active, dared to speak, and remembered new vocabulary more easily. In addition, the results of the interview showed that most students felt happy and motivated when learning through games because the learning atmosphere became more enjoyable and not boring. Thus, it can be concluded that interactive games are an effective strategy to improve students' English language skills at the elementary school level.
