Abstract
Firdaus Akbar Pangestu (126203212170) 2025. The Effectiveness of Role Play with Indonesian Folklore towards The Students’ Pronunciation Proficiency at The Eighth Grade Students of MTsN 8 Tulungagung. Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic University Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Keywords: Role Play, Indonesian Folklore, Pronunciation Proficiency Pronunciation proficiency in English, often hindered by limited exposure and traditional teaching methods. Incorporating culturally rich folklore into role-playing offers an engaging and meaningful context that enhances students' pronunciation, fluency, and confidence. Targeting eighth-grade students at MTsN 8 Tulungagung, the research aims to fill a gap in prior studies that predominantly focus on older learners. This research utilized a one-group pretest post-test approach in a pre-experimental design. Eighth-grade students were specifically selected based on predetermined criteria. The data collection process included a pre-test, treatment in the form of material introduction and role play practice with Indonesian folklore, and a post-test. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the students' pronunciation ability before and after given the role play with Indonesian folklore’s treatment differs significantly. Data analysis was conducted using a paired sample t-test with the help of SPSS version 21. After the treatment with role play using Indonesian folklore, the students' post-test scores were significantly higher than the average pre-test score (8.87). The T-test results showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that the students' pronunciation ability improved significantly. These findings suggest that such a culturally contextualized role play approach can be an effective pedagogical method for enhancing pronunciation skills among junior high school students.
