ABSTRACT Nadhiroh, Siti. Student Registered Number. 2813133108. 2017. A Study on Teaching and Learning Vocabulary For Disable Students at SLB B Negeri Tulungagung Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Muh Basuni, M.Pd. Keywords: Vocabulary, teacher strategy, materials, media, students with special needs. Everyone would want to have normal physical and living fun like normal people, like as children with disabilities who study in special school at SLB B Tulungagung. They have limited hearing, not only can’t hear but because they never hear the language, they also experience silence permanently, causing them to have two disabilities at once. The interesting something that reseacher found in this case is, they have learn English which basically education in SLB focused on 60% skill and 40% lesson. The purpose of disable student’s study of English is because they have to keep up with the progressive times with their discussion and also they have to do the national test of English to be able to graduate from junior high school and continue to next level of education. And the thing that makes even more interesting in SLB B Negei Tulungagung is that the English lesson taught to the students there is a vocabulary, because vocabulary is the first part of a basic in Engish lesson, the modern era also support them to learn about it because many kind off tool and subject in around them using English language. Its very interert to know all about the process teaching and learning vocabulary in class based their disabilities that they have from they still child until now. The formulation of the Research Question are: 1) what is the strategy used by the teacher in teaching vocabulary at SLB B Negeri Tulungagung. 2) What is the teaching material used by English teacher to teach Vocabulary for disable students at SLB B Negeri Tulungagung. 3) What are the teaching media used by English teacher to teach Vocabulary for disable students at SLB B Negeri Tulungagung. The purpose of this research are: 1) To know the strategy used by teacher in teaching vocabulary at SLB B Negeri Tulungagung. 2) To know what vocabulary material is taught by the teacher at SLB B Negeri Tulungagung. 3) To find out what media is used by teachers to teach vocabulary at SLB B Negeri Tulungagung In conducting this research, researchers used descriptive qualitative method to collect and analyze data. The subjects of this study were English teachers at SLB B Tulungagung and 7th graders at SMPLB. Instruments used in this study include interview guides, checklist observations, and documentation. Data analysis using qualitative analysis, data reduction, data presentation, coding, conclution and final conclution The research finds strategies used by English teachers in the learning and teaching process of vocabulary class for the deaf children: Total Physical Response (TPR), Gesture, Sign Language, and Written Language. While the vocabulary material taught in the class is: simple vocabulary (Pronoun, andverb noun, conjuction,ajective) and simple sentence (Simple, Complex,Compound). And the media used by teachers in teaching vocabulary are defended: Realia, audiovisual /video, and picture. The strategies, materials, and media will help teachers who teach in schools with special needs to make the process of learning and teaching vocabulary in the classroom more maximal and achieving the goals in SLB B Negeri Tulungagung. And in the end, although teachers also have difficulty in teaching and learning process in deaf class, but with patience, prepare strategy, materials and media dtaht used by teachers can help teachers in maximizing vocabulary lessons.
