Abstract

Thesis titled: "The Phenomenon of Code Mixing between Arabic and Indonesian in the Linguistic Environment at Al-Mawaddah Islamic Boarding School Blitar" Written by Aulia Latifatus Zahro, Student ID: 1880504240015, Arabic Language Education Study Program, Postgraduate, State Islamic University Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Keywords: Code mixing, Arabic language, Linguistic environment. This research aims to uncover the phenomenon of code mixing between Arabic and Indonesian in the linguistic environment at Al-Mawaddah Islamic Boarding School Blitar, thru three main focuses: (1) Identifying the forms of code mixing that occur in the daily communication of female students, (2) Analyzing the internal and external factors that cause this phenomenon, (3) Revealing strategies to strengthen the linguistic environment that can minimize the occurrence of code mixing. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing three data collection instruments, namely: direct field observation of daily language interactions, in-depth interviews with Arabic language teachers, language department members, and students, as well as documentation. Field research was conducted at the female dormitory of Al-Mawaddah Islamic Boarding School Blitar, located in Jiwut, Nglegok, Blitar. To validate the data, the researcher used source triangulation, technique triangulation, and time triangulation. This research yields three main findings: (1) The phenomenon of code mixing is divided into four forms: code mixing at the word, code mixing at the phrase, code mixing in the form of baster, and code mixing in the form of word repetition. As for code mixing at the word, it is the most dominant form, where female students insert Indonesian vocabulary into their Arabic sentences. (2) The factors of code mixing are divided into internal and external. Internal factors: limited Arabic vocabulary, lack of self-confidence, dominance of Indonesian language habits, and difficulty in applying nahwu and sharaf rules. As for external factors: lack of supervision from the language department, peer influence, diversity in the backgrounds of students, and inconsistent enforcement of sanctions. (3) Strategies for strengthening the language environment to reduce code mixing: enhancing the vocabulary system and linguistic terms thru room supervisors, pocket books, and periodic exams, strengthening linguistic activities and supervision, developing language media and facilities, and improving cooperation and coordination between departments.
