Speaking is a very important ability to be mastered. The fact, that students who had good grades in English are not always good at speaking English. Though speaking is needed and most often used to interact among four other language skills. Based on the results of preliminary study conducted in 5th grade students of SDN 2 Kelutan Trenggalek, the practical problems in the speaking class are: they are embarrassed to speak English, they have no motivation to learn, lack of practice in the classroom, lack of vocabulary. So, to achieve the target of the learning process of learning there must be an effective learning strategy that can overcome all the above problems. This study deals with the application of a Chain Work method to solve speech problems. Chain work method is a method used by researchers to improve students' speaking motivation in English by describing images in chains. The problem formulation in this research is "how Chain Work Method can improve students' motivation in learning to speak fifth grade English at SDN 2 Kelutan?" The purpose of this research problem is to describe how Chain Work Method can improve the motivation of speaking fifth grade students in SDN 2 Kelutan. The method used are : 1) Design research using Classroom Action Research. 2) The subjects of the study were five graders of SDN 2 Kelutan. 3) The research instrument is an observation and test sheet. 4) Research procedures include Planning, Application, Observation, and Reflection. 5) The success criteria is determined by the liveliness of the students in following the lesson and can raise the hand when the teacher gives the task. The result of the implementation of Chain Work Method shows that this strategy is effective for solving students' speaking problems. This study requires 2 cycles. In cycle 1, the test results show that students are motivated to have Chain Work Method but with technic group making, students are still shy and not active in speaking English. From the results in cycle 1, this study should proceed to the next cycle with some changes in the scenario and technik learning. In cycle 2 with individual work technic students become more confident and if they do not know the words that will be spoken in English students with enthusiastic ask the teachers and pull out all their imagination about the pictures they get, and the students become more active to raise their hands when the teacher assigning assignments. Thus, based on the results of cycle 2. Chain Work Method is the effective strategy used to solve the problem in the speaking class.
