Keywords: Effectiveness, Bingo game, vocabulary mastery Vocabulary is an important component in language learning. The students will have difficulties in expressing their ideas and comprehend the skills in English if they do not have sufficient vocabularies. The problems that most of the students face in vocabulary learning were difficult to understand what the teacher says and to memorize new words. Therefore, the teacher should apply teaching technique which is effective to teach vocabulary. Bingo is a popular game for all ages. This game is designed to create the students’ interest to learn vocabulary in entertaining way. Therefore, this research is aimed at investigating the effectiveness of Bingo Game toward students’ vocabulary mastery. The formulations of the research problems were: 1) How is the students’ score in vocabulary before being taught using bingo game? 2) How is the students’ score in vocabulary after being taught using bingo game? 3) Is Bingo Game effective toward the second grade students’ vocabulary mastery at MTs Darul Falah Bendiljati Kulon? The method used in this research was pre-experimental research design with the population the second grade students at MTs Darul Falah Bendiljati Kulon that consist of four classes (138 students). The sample of this research was VIII-B class consisting of 35 students selected by means purposive sampling. Meanwhile, the instrument used was vocabulary test. The data collected through pre-test and post-test were analyzed by using Paired Samples Test with SPSS 16.00 version. This study revealed that there were two important points: Firstly, The students’ mean score of their vocabulary mastery before being taught by using Bingo game was 68 and after being taught by using Bingo game was 85.14. Hence, the difference of mean score was 17.14. Secondly, the result of Paired Samples Test showed that the significant value was 0.000 at the significant level 0.05. This indicated that Bingo game was effective to help the students increase their vocabulary mastery and can be used continuously as one of the alternative teaching technique in vocabulary for the junior high school students.
