Abstract

Student Registered Number. 1723143094 .2018.The Effectiveness of Using Three Steps Interview Strategy on The Tenth Grade Students Speaking Ability of SMA Negeri 1 Tulungagung. Sarjana Thesis. Keywords: Effectiveness, Three Steps Interview , Speaking Ability Speaking is one skill in English which have to be learned by the students. As speaking process, media is education object which influences teacher to transfer massage. The aim of madia is important and it is possible to coordinate between teaching with learning. Far away, one of strategy which came in handle for teaching speaking is Three Step Interview Strategy. Three Step Interview is one of cooperative learning methods. In previous studies three step interview were effective used in teaching speaking. In the application of three step interview, students give the responses in turn. It means that every member in group could heve his/her own turn to give the responses based on the material by the researcher. Here the students are interview about article that they have read and share what they learned in the interview in the team. The formalitaion of the research proble “ Is ther any significant different between students’ speaking ability taught by using three step interviw” and “ Hoe do Students’ respond when using three step interview strategy” an SMAN 1 Tulungagung. The peurpose of the research problem was to find out if there is the significant differents of using three step interview strategy and to find the students responts after they taught by using three step interview strategy an SMAN 1 Tulungagung. Researh Method applied in this study included: 1) the reserach design in this research was quasi experimental design with quantitative approach in the from two groups pre-test and pos-test in which one group becomes experimental and the other becomes control group, 2) the population of this research was all of first grade at SMAN 1 Tulungagung which consist of seven classes and the total of the students were 205, 3) the sample was X-4 as experimental class which consist of 28 students and X-5 as control class which consist of 23 students, 4) the variable were independent and dependent wariable. Independent variable was three steps interview and dependent variable was the student speaking ability in news item text, 5) the research instrument was test, 6) the data analysis was using describing the result of the mean and standard deviation score, test Normality and test Homogenity. The result showed that the students mean score in experimental class being taugh using by three step interview was 65,64 and the students’ mean score being taugh using by three step interview was 82,50. In the control class also there is improvement mean score from 59 becomes 63. However, the improvement inexperimental class was higher that control class. And then showed the students reponts after they taught by using three steps interview strategy it was, Only 3 students from 20 students said for the improving spekaing practice using this method can not improve their pronunciation. Others agree strongly with a variety of reasons, and if summarize the most reason because they can have new vocabulary and vocabulary pronunciation from speaker or teacher. While the respond ofeach students on averege argue that they are still a little stired in responding to the speaker, but that’s what will be a motivation.
