Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr.Sukarsono,M.Pd Keywords: Code switching,teacher, teaching English. In the Thailand, the use of two languages is a now very common phenomenon because the English teacher is familiar with more than one language such as English –Thai and Thai- Melayu as daily activities for english teacher at Nahdatulsuban school for teaching English to the students. The code switching is used by English teacher when her teach in English with Thai student, she always use one more than languages to make her students more understanding in her classroom. In the class, teacher uses English first then changes into Thai in explaining the topic and doing the exercise. Code switching can be a good strategies in teaching English to help her and her students in explain but also in communication between English teacher and students at this school. The questions formulated by the researcher were: 1) what are types of code switching used by the English teacher in teaching English? 2) what are the causes of code switching used by English teacher in teaching English ? The purposes of the study were firstly to know the types of code switching in teaching English , secondly is to know the causes of code switching in teaching English and the last one is to know the benefits of code switching in teaching English. Research method is this study was descriptive study using qualitative approach. The researcher also wanted to show the data deeply. Here, the focus of research was to descript any information appear when the researcher was looking for the data. So, he has decided to select a design as approach guideline to carry out the research. The subject of this study is an English teacher at Nahdatulsuban school as the subject. The research instruments in this study were observation, interview, and documentations. Then the researcher took some videos in the class and make the transcription to find the words or phrases which found by English teacher. As the result, the researcher found the types of code switching namely (1) intra-sentential code switching. There are 7 times appearing in the teaching English in m.4 (2) inter-sentential code switching. This also found 7 times during teaching English. The researcher also found the causes of code switching namely (1) teacher because if she use English all the time without changing another language it made her students get problem in learning. Students mostly they speak three languages when being at school. So they cannot answer teacher directly in English when they have English class. The researcher found the result of the benefits of code switching in teaching namely (1) the student more understandabout the lesson being taught by teacher (2) avoid the problem in learning (3) student get fun in learning , they have fun learning English.
