Keywords: Effectiveness, Modified Domino Cards Game, Vocabulary Mastery. Vocabulary is a core component of language proficiency and provides much of the basis for how well learners speak, listen, read and write. The use of modified domino cards game is expected have a positive effect in increasing students’ learning interest that affects their learning outcomes. In this technique, students use modified domino cards game to learn vocabulary. The formulation of the research problem was: Is there any significant different score in the students’ vocabulary mastery between students’ taught with and without using Modified Domino Cards Game at the first grade of MTsN 5 Tulungagung in the academic year 2018/2019. The objective of this research was to find out if there is any significant different score in the students’ vocabulary mastery between students’ taught with and without using Modified Domino Cards Game at the first grade of MTsN 5 Tulungagung in the academic year 2018/2019. The research design of this study was quasi experimental design with quantitative approach. The population of this research was the first grade students of MTsN 5 Tulungagung. The samples of this research were VII A class as control group consisted of 25 students and VII B class as experimental group consisted of 25 students. The research instrument was in the form of vocabulary test. The data analysis was using Independent Sample t-test by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) 16.00. The result showed that the students’ mean score in experimental group before being taught using by Modified Domino Cards Game was 49 and the students’ mean score after being taught using by Modified Domino Cards Game was 84.56. In the control group also there is improvement mean score from 47.28 became 70.72. However, the improvement in experimental group was higher than control group. In addition, the result of the statistical computation used Independent Sample t-test with SPSS 16.00, showed that the significance value is 0.00. It means that the significance value is smaller than the significance level (0.00 < 0.05). The result of significance value indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means there was a significant effect of using Modified Domino Cards Game on students’ achievement in vocabulary at MTsN 5 Tulungagung. In the other words, Modified Domino Cards Game was recommended for the teacher to teach vocabulary.
