Keywords: effectiveness, online dictionaries, pronunciation achievement. Pronunciation is an important component in spoken language. Language is also a tool used to covey information either directly or using a media. The language users will be able to catch or understand the meaning of spoken language without making misunderstanding with correct pronunciation. Therefore the achievement of pronunciation in English is very important. Communication media such as handphone also have an important role as learning media in term of Online Dictionary which more technological and easier accessed by using the internet. This study was done to verify whether or not the Online Dictionary was effective used in teaching and learning pronunciation on the tenth grade students at SMAN 1 Ngunut. The formulation of the research problem was “Is there any significant different score on pronunciation between students taught by using Online Dictionaries and those taught by using a conventional method at SMAN 1 Ngunut”. Research method: 1) the research design of this study was Quasiexperimental with quantitative approach, 2) the population of this study was tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Ngunut, 3) the samples were X IPS 2 class consisted of 30 students and X IPS 4 class consisted of 31 students, 4) the research instrument was test, 5) the data analysis was using T-test. The finding showed that Online Dictionaries was effective used in teaching pronunciation at tenth grade of SMAN 1 Ngunut. The effectiveness of Online Dictionaries can be shown in the following points: 1) the mean score of students on pre-test taught by using Online Dictionaries was 58.40, and the mean score of post-test was 70.93. The gain of the mean score was 12.53. 2) the mean score of students on pre-test taught without Online Dictionaries was 56.42, and the mean score of post-test was 58.23. The gain of the mean score was 1.81. 3) the result of t-test at significance level of 0.05 showed that the significant values (sig-2 tailed) was 0.00 smaller than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05). The result means that there is significant different in pronunciation of the students taught by using Online Dictionaries and those taught by using conventional method. It can be said that Online Dictionaries gives significance effect to the language users especially in learning pronunciation
