Abstract

Key Terms: Student’s motivation, student’s achievement Student’s motivation is very important to improve student’s achievement in English. Motivation can make them Learning English more diligently and harder. Formulation of the problem: 1. How is the motivation of the sixth year student at SDN III Kedungwaru in learning English? 2. How is the sixth year student’s achievement in English? 3. Is there any correlation between motivation in learning English and English Achivement of the sixth year students at SDN III Kedungwaru? Purpose of the Study: 1. To know the motivation of the sixth year student at SDN III Kedungwaru in learning English. 2. To know the sixth year student’s achievement in English. 3. To know the correlation between motivation in learning English and English Achievement of the sixth year students at SDN III Kedungwaru. Research Method: Correlational research analysis with the use of Quantitative Approach. Here, the researcher used purposive sampling technique, take 152 students as population and chose 30 students as the sample, they are sixth year students. It is 11 % of population. To obtain to needed data, the researcher used some instruments of collection data, they were: Questionnaire and English test. Then, the data were analyzed statistically by using Pearson’s Product Moment Coefficient Correlation Formula. The result of this study: the student’s motivation in learning English was in the level of motivated enough with the highest score was 98, the lowest score was 60, and the mean score was 78. Whereas, the student’s achievement in English was in the level of very good with the highest score was 100, the lowest score was 60 and the mean score was 73. Then, the Product Moment correlation result between the two variables that were “Motivation in Learning English” and “English Achievement” was 0,466. That data analysis shows that “ r “ value was high than the “ r “ table of Product Moment, either in 5% or 1% significance. Based on the result above, it showed that there is positive correlation between student’s motivation in learning English and their English Achievement, although in the level of significant enough. Finally, the researcher hopes that this research can be used to contribute something for improvement in teaching learning English.
