Abstract

The Effectiveness of Using Storyboard Animation toward Students’ Writing Achievement on Recount Text in the Frist Grade of Vocational High School 1 Boyolangu. Sarjana Thesis. Keyword: Writing, Recount text, Media, Storyboard animation. Writing is another way of communication beside speaking. Therefore, writing becomes a significant skill to be acquired for students. In teaching writing, teachers need to increase the students’ motivation in writing. Teaching learning process must be set up as interesting as possible which requires active involvement of the students. Some students usually have difficulties in connecting paragraph, have no idea to start writing a story, and they think writing is boring. Many students think that they are not able to write. It is because they are lack of motivation so that teachers need to create enjoyable writing activity (Harmer, 2010 , p. 113). Therefore, it becomes necessity for teachers to search the technique, and strategy to increase students’ interest on learning in order to achieve teaching learning goal. The use of media in teaching learning process already becomes the necessity. Media becomes a tool to create interesting and joy the atmosphere in conveying materials. Teaching writing using storyboard can be an alternative to make students’ interest in writing. Storyboard animation is combining between animation and story. Storyboard animation helps the students to visualize their idea before writing a story. The problem of this research is: Is there any significant different score of the students on writing recount text taught using storyboard animation and taught without using storyboard animation? This research is aimed to find out: To find out whether there is significant different score of the students on writing recount text taught using storyboard animation and taught without using storyboard animation. This present study employed pre-experimental one group pretest – posttest design. The researcher used pre-experimental design to know whether there is any significant differences on the students’ writing achievement using or without using storyboard animation. The sample of the research was X SR 2 or animation class, it consists of 36 students. Pre-experimental design involves three steps; pre-test, treatment, posttest. The research instrument is test, consisting of pre-test and posttest. While the data were analyzed by using paired sample t-test. From the result of statistical analysis data using Paired Sample T-test using SPSS 16.0, it shows that that the mean of pre-test is 58.89, while the mean of posttest is 69.67. The Sig. (2-tailed) in this research is 0.000 it means less than 0.05 (0.00<0.05). It means, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The researcher found out that the students are more interested in learning recount text by using storyboard animation. So, it can be conclude that storyboard animation is effective for student’ writing achievement in the first grade of Vocational High School 1 Boyolangu.
